Upon arrival, I’ll be waiting for you inside the Cruise Ship Terminal, holding a sign with your last name to ensure a smooth and hassle-free pickup.
2. Travel Through the Historic Whittier Tunnel
We’ll leave Whittier via the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, a 2.5-mile-long historic tunnel, which is the longest highway tunnel in North America. Originally built for military use in WWII, this tunnel provides a fascinating glimpse into Alaska’s engineering marvels.
3. First Scenic Stop: Portage Lake & Portage Valley Drive
Just outside the tunnel, we’ll stop for stunning photos at Portage Lake, surrounded by breathtaking glaciers and rugged mountain landscapes.
From there, we’ll continue a scenic 10-mile drive through Portage Valley, a picturesque stretch lined with:
- Towering snow-capped peaks
- Glacial rivers and lakes
- Lush, untouched wilderness
4. Visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center
Next, we’ll stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a 250-acre sanctuary dedicated to Alaska’s native wildlife. Here, you’ll have the chance to see:
- Grizzly and black bears
- Moose, elk, caribou, and musk oxen
- Bald eagles, wolves, and wood bison
You can walk through or drive through the center to see these incredible animals up close. (Entrance fees are not included.)

We’ll then drive 10 miles north to Girdwood, Alaska, a charming mountain town surrounded by dense forests.
Here, you have the option to:

- Enjoy lunch at the mountaintop restaurant with spectacular scenery. (Tram and lunch costs are not included.)
6. Scenic Drive Along Turnagain Arm – Dall Sheep Viewing

- Beluga whales (during the right season) swimming in the bay.
We’ll make occasional stops for photo opportunities to capture the stunning landscapes along the way.
